What should a client-facing cookie compliance report include?

A useful client report covers five things: the cookies currently set on the site and their categories, whether non-essential cookies are blocked before consent, the consent banner's accept and decline rates, changes since the last report, and any issues that need action. Everything should be plain enough for a non-technical reader.

The cookie inventory

List each cookie by name, source domain, duration, and category such as strictly necessary, analytics, or advertising. Clients should be able to see that the list matches their cookie policy, which is the document regulators compare against reality.

The behavior check

State plainly whether tracking scripts wait for consent. This is the finding clients care about most, because a banner that does not actually block is the failure mode that draws fines. Include the date the check ran.

Trends and actions

Show consent rate over time, new cookies found since the last report, and a short list of recommended actions. A report that ends with clear next steps keeps the engagement alive and demonstrates ongoing value rather than a one-time audit.
